Primary Purpose: Patrol district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Enforce all laws, including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws. Investigate criminal cases, as required, stemming from violations of municipal ordinances, county ordinances, or state laws. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Patrol assigned campuses and routes by walking or driving within district jurisdiction. Respond to all calls from the local school principal or their designee regarding crisis situations, accidents, and reports of crime. Investigate all criminal offenses that occur within the district’s jurisdiction. Investigations may be initiated at the campus level or assigned by supervisory personnel. Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations, including witness statements and physical evidence. Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary. Write effective legal incident reports. Testify in court as needed. Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide assistance. Help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time. Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed. Operate all equipment, including firearms, according to established safety procedures. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports, and activity reports. Perform crossing guard duties as assigned. Assist departmental supervision in additional specialized activities, including but not limited to the continued investigation of criminal cases; transportation of cases and evidence to appropriate offices and agencies outside of the district; and assistance in the performance of other police-related duties. These duties may be performed at headquarters or any other facility deemed appropriate by police supervision for any period of time. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety or Police Supervisor.

The McGregor Police Department is a 24-hour service police department that operates with four 10-hour shifts. Shifts are assigned by supervisors and include nights, weekends, and holidays. Positions require professionalism, integrity, strong communication skills, and a desire to serve a growing community of more than 5,000 citizens. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Enforcement of all statutes, laws, ordinances, regulations, and procedures of the City and the Police Department.
• Maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and performing related assignments.
• Maintaining knowledge of state traffic codes, criminal procedure codes, city ordinances, department orders, and departmental memoranda.
• Being courteous and helpful in interactions with the public and superior officers, while providing general assistance as required.
• Patrolling assigned areas to enforce laws, prevent and detect crimes, investigate criminal activity, maintain order, and respond to citizen complaints.
• Responding to radio-dispatched requests for police services at the scenes of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and disturbances of the peace.
• Investigating illegal or suspicious activities, persons, and establishments, and quelling disturbances.
• Locating, detaining, and arresting law violators in accordance with recognized police procedures, as well as guarding and transporting prisoners.
• Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, and gathering and preserving evidence.
• Investigating the causes and results of accidents, collecting and labeling evidence, and taking photographs and fingerprints.
• Providing traffic direction and traffic control at accident scenes and during weather-related incidents.
• Issuing written citations and warnings for traffic violations and violations of city ordinances.
• Writing detailed incident reports, criminal investigation reports, criminal activity reports, and other police reports.
• Testifying in court and presenting evidence from criminal investigations by accurately describing conditions, situations, and actions.
