Job Description:

PRIMARY DUTY: Under limited supervision, directs the Planning Department through effective management of resource; performs professional work of technical difficulty, provides technical expertise on planning and zoning issues and directs the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and City ordinances
Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the operations of Department; applies independent judgment in defining and assigning projects, work methods, techniques and procedures
Provides leadership, direction and guidance in technical processes and procedures; manages implementation and enforcement of zoning regulations; manages services, including zoning, subdivisions, ordinances, inspections, historic preservation and property management
Serves as principal advisor and subject-matter expert on planning and zoning issues; exercises independent judgment within broad policy guidelines; evaluates and analyzes technical issues, interprets City codes and ordinances and advises on specialized areas of technical expertise
Serves as technical advisor to Planning and Zoning Board, Board of Adjustment and Historic Commission
Directs, coaches and trains staff and evaluates performance; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve priorities, workload, resource allocation, quality standards and technical issues; monitors operations to identify and resolve problems; assures projects meet scope, schedule and quality requirements
Determines department objectives and evaluates progress toward achieving goals; manages administrative activities including budgets, proposals and contracts
Manages the collection, analysis and reporting of planning services data; reviews technical documents and other records to evaluate data quality and accuracy; identifies and corrects errors and inconsistencies in documents and reports; directs coordination of plans and issues with other state and regional agencies
Analyzes operational information, evaluates trends and assures planning issues are properly addressed and resolved; develops and presents reports and recommendations in public meetings
Supports the relationship between the City of McGregor and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information
Manages work performed by consultants
Oversees consultant selection process including development of RFP’s or RFQ’s, evaluations of proposals and provides selection recommendation to City Manager’s office
Develops and evaluates budget request, monitors budget expenditures, makes adjustments as necessary and reports budget information
May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency
Performs other duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRES High School Diploma or GED AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a Planning Department OR any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill. Must be a reliable self motivated individual with a positive attitude.

Parks Laborer

Job Description:

Performs work related to the maintenance of City owned parks and properties. Cleans and maintains Bluebonnet Park, Kasting Park, Bewley Park, Amsler Park, Legacy Park, the McGregor cemetery and the McGregor Airport. Duties include mowing, weed eating, edging, trimming trees and shrubs, planting trees, shrubs and flowers, removal and disposal of any and all trash, repair and maintenance of City equipment used to complete these duties and repair and maintenance of playground equipment and installing playground equipment in a safe and professional manner. Installs, repairs, and maintains swimming pool equipment, athletic facilities, fences, restrooms, pavilions, ponds, and other equipment located in parks. Other duties include building maintenance duties such as painting and minor repairs.

Job Requirements:
The City of McGregor is accepting applications for the temporary seasonal position of Lifeguard.  Must be at least 16 years of age to apply.  Position requires Basic Lifeguard Certification, CPR, and First Aid Certification. Minimum of one (1) year prior experience preferred.  Water Safety Instructor certificate is preferred.  Reimbursement for lifeguard training will be provided at the end of a successfully completed season.  Salary DOQ and hires will not be eligible for benefits.
