Utility Worker

The Utility Worker perform duties essential in operating and maintaining the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection system, including completing water taps, repairing water and sewer leaks, and performing preventative and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines. There will be some meter reading and public contact. There is strenuous physical work outdoors and some after-hours/on-call work.

Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or GED equivalent, a valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, a “D” Water and Wastewater Certification, or ability to obtain one within one (1) year of employment, one (1) year experience in water or wastewater utility operations or construction (preferred), or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, ability to operate a backhoe, dump truck, and various handheld tools (preferred). Street Maintenance Laborer/Heavy Equipment Operator

Work in all construction and maintenance of streets and surface drainage systems. Perform sign maintenance and replacement. Check street lighting on a regular basis. On call rotation is required. Participation in field operations on a daily basis, and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRES High School Diploma or GED; Two years (2) years of responsible experience performing street and surface drainage maintenance, repair and construction preferred. Experience in a municipal or governmental setting preferred. CDL license preferred and driving record must meet or exceed guidelines set forth by the City. MUST be able to operate various types of light and heavy equipment including backhoe, dump truck, iron wheel roller, maintainer and tractor. Knowledge of Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) is preferred. Candidates MUST successfully complete background check (including driving/criminal history), drug screening and pre-employment physical.
